Brush Cutting & Removal

It is the goal of the Shelter Island Highway Department to work with homeowners to clean out encroaching/overgrown vegetation. The Town owns approximately 10-20 feet from the edge of the blacktop roadway to a homeowner's property line (depending on the property.) This is called a right-of-way. Right-of-ways serve the following purposes:

  • Vehicle Parking (including Emergency Vehicles)
  • Snow Placement Areas While Plowing Roads
  • Temporary Debris Placement Areas During Storm Cleanup
  • Access for Utility Companies

Bamboo and Overgrowth

Please Note: Invasive species, such as "mile-a-minute" vine and bamboo are not proper forms of privacy screening for your property.
