The Town Engineer assists with, provides engineering support for, and acts as the technical advisor in matters of an engineering nature for the Town. The position is appointed by the Town Board. The Town Engineer reports to the Town Board but works closely with the Superintendent of Highways and Commissioner of Public Works. Engineering work focuses primarily on Town infrastructure and in areas for which the Town has a technical, governmental responsibility. The Town Engineer is also a designated appointee to the Water Advisory and Capital Planning/Grants Committee. The Town Engineer does not provide private citizens of Shelter Island personal engineering services.
